Learning Photography
What can you expect from a session with Owen Boyd?
It’s very much up to you. Some people prefer to keep things simple and concentrate on basic control of their camera. Absolutely fine by me.
Unravelling just what all those modes and symbols mean is definitely a priority.
Usually I find people welcome an introduction to basic concepts of exposure - aperture, shutter speeds, ISO - the famous exposure triangle. Whether to use one of the ‘auto’ modes…? It all depends on YOUR photography…and that we’ll discuss!
What we will do is take pictures, lots of them.
Half Day Session
£110
Usually around four hours, a half day at an outdoor or indoor location will give us time to cover camera basics, those modes and menus…those different focal lengths, and f stops as well as getting some practice shooting of whatever takes your fancy.
Or maybe indoors, especially if the weather’s not so inviting. This can be at your place or mine.
For many people post production is as important. A half day session will allow time to get to grips with the fundamentals of Adobe Lightroom; how to manage and process images, organise your work, create beautiful books, and more.

Full Day Session
£200
With a full day session, typically 10am until 4pm, there is scope to get more involved in both equipment and shooting techniques. Multiple locations are an option, but as always with my tuition, how the day is planned will be in response to your needs, flexibility is key to how I work.
Often it makes sense to run through camera basics, move on to shooting images, and then importing images into Lightroom and progressing to basic editing procedures.
On the other hand I’m very happy to spend a full day in the field, exploring shooting options.
Photography tuition makes a great gift idea.
